History of Languages Department
In 1957, the year of foundation, the department of foreign languages was organized. It’s founder and the first head was T.I. Zhurenkova.
From 1958 to 1977 the head of the department was V.A. Pischik, from 1978 to 1980 – I.K. Fedyaev, from 1980 to 2002 – S.B. Makhambetova, then the department was reorganized into the department of foreign languages.
Since May 1970, the department of Latin and Russian languages was organized, the first head until 1975 was the candidate of philological sciences, Associate professor N.G. Petrov, and since 1975 – E.N. Agapov. The department taught Latin and Russian. In 1989 two courses were founded on its base: the department of the Latin language, headed by E.N. Agapov and the department of the Russian language, headed by senior teacher R.B. Shanova.
Since 1987, the Kazakh language has been taught at the department of Latin and Russian languages. Since 1989, independent department of the Kazakh language was formed, headed by the candidate of philological sciences, Associate Professor N.B. Berikov. From 1997 to 2000 it was in charge of the senior teacher B.U. Yerbatyr, then until 2007 – candidate of philological sciences K.A. Kondybai.
Since September 1995, the department of Latin and the department of the Russian language have again been merged into one department of the Latin and Russian languages (from September 2018 the Latin course doesn’t function).
As a result of further transformations, teaching of all languages has been transferred to a single language department with the allocation of Kazakh language department, the Russian language course, the foreign language course in it’s structure. Until August 2017 the joint department was headed by the candidate of philological sciences, Associate Professor, professor of the university E.N. Agapov.
