The course of roentgenology was organized at the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Diseases of the Aktobe Medical Institute in 1959. The first head of the course of radiology was c.m.s., Associate Professor Brusilovsky Evgeny Alekseevich (1959-1971). A highly qualified radiologist, before his appointment, worked as the chief radiologist of the region. In 1965, Brusilovsky defended his candidate thesis, and he was awarded the academic title of associate professor in 1968.
The subject of medical radiology was introduced for training in addition to radiology already in 1963. Professor Zholkiver Kurt Ilich was invited to give lectures from Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, and doctor-radiologist V. G. Aristenko was accepted as an assistant.
Brusilovsky Evgeny Alekseevich
From 1971 to 1995, Professor Smagulov Azhmagi Smagulovich headed the Department of Roentgenology and Radiology. On his initiative the first radioisotope diagnostics laboratory in Western Kazakhstan was opened on the basis of the central research laboratory of the ASMI. Under the direct supervision of A. S. Smagulov the «Method for diagnosing chromium intoxication» was developed and introduced into clinical practice. Associate Professor A. S. Smagulov was awarded the honorary title of Professor for his great productive social and scientific - pedagogical work in 1989.

In 1971, head of the Department was appointed Smagulov Azhmagi Smagulovich. After finishing postgraduate study and defense of the candidate's thesis Sultanov Temirkhan Ahmetkereevich and Shayhimov Yerkin Shayhinovich began to work in the Department in 1971 and in 1975, respectively. Already in 1975, five teachers worked at the department and all of them had academic degrees. In the same year, the staff of the department put into practice the methods of radiocardiometry and zonography of the respiratory organs. In the same period, at the initiative of the head of the department Smagulov A. S., the first laboratory of radioisotope diagnostics was organized in western Kazakhstan. In 1981, the "Method for diagnosing chromium intoxication" was developed and introduced into clinical practice. This diagnostic method was awarded a bronze medal at the VDNH of the USSR, and the stand-display was highly appreciated in Berlin. Due to the opening of the radioisotope laboratory it is possible to diagnose diseases at an early stage, and it also significantly improved the quality of diagnosis of many diseases. On the basis of the radioisotope laboratory, 3 doctoral and 3 candidate theses were completed.

The staff of the department took an active part in the work of conferences, symposiums and congresses. On the basis of the department, radiologists Mustafin Zh., Amreev A. K., Loktev E. N., Esmambetov A. E. successfully completed an internship. Subsequently, Mustafin Zh. defended his doctoral thesis.
From 1995 to 2009, the department, then the course of radiation diagnostics and radiation therapy was headed by the Candidate of Medical Sciences, Professor Sultanov Temirkhan Akhmetkereevich.
Sultanov Temirkhan Akhmetkereevich – c.m.s., Professor.
For the first time in Western Kazakhstan, Sultanov Temirkhan Akhmetkereevich introduced radiation therapy for non-tumor diseases, dose multifractionation, large-fraction preoperative radiation for cancer of certain localizations, as well as radio modifiers (metronidazole, 5-fluorouracil) in the treatment of cervical cancer into clinical practice.
In February 2009 c.m.s.,associate Professor Kibataev Kozy Murzakhanovich was appointed to lead the course. He is a qualified radiologist who has completed a clinical residency in radiation diagnostics on the basis of the UIAMT (Ural Institute of Advanced Medical Training) and has extensive experience in practical and pedagogical activities. Under his leadership, the "Method of conducting a tomographic examination of the lungs in an oblique projection" was developed and implemented in practical work.

The Department was enlarged with young specialists, such as, Sharipov R. A., Koshkymbayev A. T, Nurtayeva S. M. A graduate of our University, radiologist A. B. Habieva came to the Department to work as an assistant in 1996 and in 2014 after graduating from the magistracy of our University came G. A. Mutigulina and head of Department of radiology, S. A. Aldiyarov.
In 2017, the department was again restructured and the course of visual diagnostics joined the Department of Oncology.
The course staff participated in the implementation of research projects: «Medical and environmental aspects of cross-border cooperation in the Ural water basin» (WKSMU named after Marat Ospanov and Orenburg Medical Academy), «Monitoring of working conditions of workers of industrial facilities of the Mangystau region and risk assessment» (WKSMU named after Marat Ospanov and LLC «TPC «Sham-Shyrak»).
The course staff provides consulting and diagnostic assistance to practical health care workers.
Assistant Mutigulina G. A. performs the trepan-biopsy of the breast under the control of mammography.
Assistant Aldiyarov S. A. works in the department of radiation diagnostics and performs 0.5 rates of a radiologist. He is responsible for the implementation of the screening of the second reading in the city of Aktobe and the Aktobe region.
